Getting off to a winning start in the opening match is what every host will wish for as with Ivory Coast facing Guinea Bissau, launching the rest of Africa into the 34th edition of the Africa Nations Cup which kicks-off Saturday, January 12.

After three disappointing outings at the last three editions of the AFCON where the Ivory Coast failed to make it the past the group stage, the Jean Louis-Gasset side will put that behind them knowing that picking up three points against Guinea-Bissau is non-negotiable should they be intent about making it to the next round.

For Guinea-Bissau, they are currently ranked outside the top 100 in the FIFA rankings and come with a record of no win in a game at AFCON despite their treble appearances at this stage.

Though a 6-2 friendly loss to Mali may foreshadow their campaign, their famous 1-0 win over the Super Eagles of Nigeria still rings loud and serves as a warning to opponents to avoid underrating the Bissau-Guineans.
Date, kick-off time and venue: Ivory Coast vs Guinea Bissau

The game is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

The match will take place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
