AFCON 2023: Heavyweight clash as defending champion Senegal battle Cameroon







Senegal and Cameroon face off in a crucial match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday.

The Lions of Teranga got off to a perfect start in their maiden AFCON title defence on Monday, with a second-half brace from Lamine Camara following Pape Gueye’s early effort to give Aliou Cisse’s team a comfortable 3-0 triumph over The Gambia.


And they will be favourites to all but secure a knockout spot today against a Cameroon team that flattered to deceive in their Group A opener.


Missing Andre Onana and injured captain Vincent Aboubakar, the Indomitable Lions fell behind early against Guinea, with to Mohamed Bayo’s goal, and finally leveled through Frank Magri after Francois Kamano.

The Lions of Teranga are not anticipated to make many changes on Friday, with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson likely to start on the bench.

Cameroon will be hoping star attacker Aboubakar can play after missing the opener owing to a thigh injury sustained in training last week.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana should also start following his late arrival to camp and the travel difficulties that occurred prior to the match against Guinea.
