Ivorians were left shell-shocked on Monday when they were dumped out of the AFCON 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea.

Ivorians were inconsolable as the Guineans slaughtered the hosts who put up a stiff resistance in their second match against Super Eagles which ended 1-0.

The Ivorians wept openly with one of their fans shouting, “La Cote d’Ivoire est fine! which means Cote d’Ivoire is finished. With her little baby, Konate Aistan wept openly.

When I asked for her opinion, she sobbed, “They’re very disappointing. Today, they’ve murdered sleep. They can’t sleep and we can’t sleep. The Nation is in mourning. Ahmoudou, one of the Ivorians who preferred to watch Nigeria and Guinea Bissau said he knew they had nothing to offer.

“I ran away from heartache to watch Nigeria and Victor Osimhen. I’m happy Nigeria won even though they were also disappointing in their play. They’re better than the Elephants”, he said.

The general mood here is that of a national calamity as the riotous nature that accompanies their outing was replaced with suppressed anger, sombre disappointment. In all this, they were not destructive.
